What's in this database?

The Wisconsin Plumbing Products Register Database includes pools, plumbing products, and plumbing systems that have been issued an approval, an alternate approval, or an experimental approval, or have had their approval rescinded. (There is voluntary approval of Private Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems components.) Pools, plumbing products, or systems receiving experimental approvals may only be used at the installation site specified in the experimental approval letter. Rescinded approvals take affect the day the rescission letter is issued. Products or systems installed prior to the expiration date or date of rescission do not need to be removed.

Plumbing products in the following categories must be individually approved by the Safety and Buildings Division before they can be sold or installed for use in a plumbing system in the State of Wisconsin.
1. Chemical or biochemical treatments for POWTS (see note a)
2. Health care plumbing appliances
3. Physical restoration processes for POWTS
4. Prefabricated holding or treatment components for POWTS
5. Prefabricated plumbing
6. Drinking water treatment devices or bottled water vending machines (see note b)
7. Wastewater treatment devices used to meet the requirements in Comm 82.70
8. Exterior grease traps
9. Alternate or experimental plumbing products
10. Voluntary approval of POWTS components, including POWTS design manuals and site-constructed POWTS tanks

Note a: The use of chemical or biochemical septic tank additives does not replace the need for a regular program of inspection and maintenance, including pumping out the tank when volume of sludge and scum occupies 1/3 of the tank's liquid capacity. Review of septic tank additives is not performed to evaluate if they work or not; they are reviewed to ensure they will not harm the user, the septic system, and the groundwater.

Note b: Water softeners that are tested and listed by an ANSI accredited listing agency (e.g. NSF International, U.L.) as complying with ANSI/NSF Standard 44 are exempt from plumbing product review and approval requirements.

A list of the referenced approval stipulations.   Stipulations indicate specific limits, treatment recognition, and/or reason for alternate approval. Specific limits may be installation or use conditions. Treatment recognition indicates how the product or system performs under certain conditions. Reason for alternate approval indicates how the item meets the intent of the code Manufacturers' names and addresses.
