BOGS 2007 Helps Disadvantaged Businesses Go for Big Deals in Government Contracting

Business Opportunities in the Government Sector (BOGS) is the premier workshop event in Wisconsin designed to help firms find business in the government sector. The Bureau of Minority Business Development at Commerce partners with Department of Administration, WEN, SBDC, WisDOT, and Madison Area Technical College's Business Procurement Assistance Center to produce this workshop. At BOGS, minority-owned, women-owned, and disadvantaged businesses network and create business relationships. Large and small businesses have used BOGS' workshops to navigate between government and private sectors. State, federal and other procurement assistance agencies will be on hand to help firms navigate through the world of government contracting.

BOGS 2007, which will be held on April 19 in Madison, will highlight the opportunities in construction especially in the Madison area. Several state projects planned for the future will provide opportunities for successful firms. Wisconsin officials and representatives of many large construction companies will discuss how small companies can enjoy greater participation in the state building program.

The BOGS 2007 program will start with a general session on "Leveraging your chances when opportunity knocks" followed by workshops on many opportunities with state and federal agencies. These informative workshops promise to enhance opportunities for minority businesses. If you are just starting or thinking of improving your chances to obtain government contracts, this is where you need to be.

Other sessions include an "experience forum" panel discussion on successful subcontracting strategies. Panelists include minority businesses that have done successful subcontracting. There is ample time at BOGS for participants to have "business exchanges." Business exchange is a scheduled time for participants to arrange one-on-one meetings with the exhibitors and primes. Many exhibitors are looking for minority-, women- and veteran owned businesses to meet the supplier diversity requirements. There is also time to check on activities in your office with regularly scheduled breaks.

The Department of Administration will honor those businesses that have demonstrated excellent supplier diversity results on state contracts with the presentation of the Accolade Awards at the luncheon.

The afternoon will feature four major workshops: Diversity in the Trades, Successful Sub-Contracting, Mentor-Protégé Programs-Is it for you? and Certification Updates. Don't miss BOGS 2007.
