Funding for Renovation of Community Center in North Freedom Announced

Governor Jim Doyle recently announced that the Village of North Freedom, Sauk County, will receive up to $225,000 from the Community Development Block Grant—Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) grant to upgrade and renovate the village of North Freedom's current Community Center.

"Strengthening our communities is vital for keeping Wisconsin a great place to live, work, and raise a family," Governor Doyle said. "We need to make sure every community across the state is equipped with the resources they need to uphold the high quality of life we enjoy here in Wisconsin."

The village currently utilizes one building as a Senior Center, Senior Meal Site, Village Hall, Fire Department, First Responder equipment storage, Public Works Department and Village Library. It is also used to conduct elections, village meetings, Town of Freedom meetings, Fire Department in-house training, First Responder in-house training, Library Board meetings, library programs, senior meal site, and other area club and community functions. The building is undersized and cannot provide the books, programs, and computers needed to support all of these programs. The project will upgrade and expand the current building to make it possible for the village to continue more efficiently as a community. The total project cost is $887,300.

CDBG-PF grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community infrastructure, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
