Commerce Employee Honored with Gateway Technical College MLK Humanitarian Award

Seyoum Mengesha

Seyoum Mengesha, a Department of Commerce minority business specialist in Milwaukee, was the recent recipient of one of Gateway Technical College's Martin Luther King awards for his humanitarian work. He was chosen for the Community Service and Humanitarian Award because of his dedication to living and carrying on the ideals of King.

Seyoum is the former executive director of the Community Economic Development Corporation and continues to represent minority and women's concerns on boards and committees. According to his nomination, he has a personal mission to promote minority small business ownership, to develop the potential of minorities in Racine County, and to improve the community through effective leadership.

Seyoum received the award on January 15 at the college.
