Awards Announced for Health Professions Loan Assistance Program

The Department of Commerce has approved awards for 2007 totaling $562,381 to 18 health professionals in Wisconsin who are working in federally-designated health profession shortage areas (HPSA). In return for working in a HPSA in Wisconsin for three years, professionals such as family physicians, physicians' assistants, nurse practitioners and dentists are eligible for grants to be applied directly to their outstanding student loan balances.

Awarded HPSA areas include Boscobel, Bowler, Blair, Crivitz, Darlington, Grantsburg, LaCrosse, Madison, Milwaukee, Neillsville, Oneida, Platteville, Shell Lake, Sparta, Superior, Wild Rose, and Wonewoc.
