HOME and CDBG Training Sessions in November

Implementation training sessions scheduled for November will launch two annual housing programs aimed at improving Wisconsin's affordable housing stock.

Wisconsin's 2006 HOME and Community Development Block Grant programs, both administered by the Department of Commerce, will provide over $22 million in assistance to principally low- to moderate-income homeowners and homebuyers. Training for participants in the HOME program is scheduled for Nov. 14-15 in Madison, while communities participating in the CDBG program will gather in Wisconsin Rapids for training on Nov. 28-29.

The HOME program will provide $12 million in assistance to homebuyers, owner-occupied rehabilitation projects and rental unit rehabilitation, as well as $2.8 million in homebuyer assistance through the HCRI program. Twenty-one grantee communities across the state will participate in this year's $7.8-million CDBG program, which allocates federal funding for housing rehabilitation and homebuyer programs.

Three new Commerce employees have joined the Division of Housing and Community Development staff this year; Megan Hunter has joined the HOME program staff as a grants specialist, while Joanna Schumann is the new CDBG Housing program manager and Rick Radig is the new CDBG Housing program grants specialist.
