Cost Savings for Wisconsin Firms Wanting to Export to Libya

Libyan US Enterprise Conference in Washington, D.C. June 21-22

Wisconsin firms interested in exploring export opportunities to Libya, but don't know where to start, should consider attending the 2nd Libyan – US Enterprise Conference in Washington, DC June 21-22, 2006.  The organizers of the event are offering a discount of over 50 percent on the registration fee for Wisconsin attendees.

Since the president lifted most sanctions against doing business with Libya in 2004, a whole new market has opened up for Wisconsin exporters.  In 2003, only $225,546 worth of U.S. products went to the North African country.  Last year, U.S. shipments there totaled $83,822,103, an increase of 370 percent.  With proven oil reserves at 36 billion barrels, and the price of oil at record levels, Libya is looking to do more business with U.S. firms and has the resources to start making purchases.  Industries with greatest potential include oil drilling and refining, natural gas, electric power, construction and engineering services, desalinization and water treatment, telecommunications, and medical equipment.

Wisconsin exporters interested in entering the Libyan market are advised to do their homework.  According to the U.S. Department of Commerce's Country Commercial Guide for Libya, the country's "bureaucracy is among the most formidable in the Middle East. In a culture where deals are made on the strength of personal contacts, Western representatives find identifying appropriate interlocutors a significant challenge."

One way to develop personal contacts in Libya is to attend the 2nd Libya – US Enterprise Conference to be held on June 21-22, 2006 in Washington, DC.  This conference will focus on two major questions:

  1. What opportunities are available for American companies in Libya?
  2. How can these American companies take advantage of these opportunities?

The conference will provide companies with a venue to network with and hear insights from the decision makers who can help them get started in Libya.  The Libyan government is bringing 100+ delegates from different industries and government agencies.  The event organizers are offering all Wisconsin attendees a special rate of just $985 for the 2-day conference.

To register, please fill out the form available on-line at www.new-fields.com/libyaforum/reg.pdf.  Indicate prominently that you are from Wisconsin and taking advantage of the discounted $985 rate.  Fax your completed registration form to (202) 478 2989. For more information on the event, please visit www.new-fields.com/libyaforum/index.htm or call Melanie Lopez, Project Manager - New Fields Exhibitions, Inc., melanie@new-fields.com, ph: (202) 536 5632.
