ESG/THP/HPP Grant Application Deadline March 6, 2006
The application deadline for the combined Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG), Transitional Housing Program (THP) and the Homeless Prevention Program (HPP) is March 6, 2006. Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) funding can be used to increase the capacity of existing shelters and transitional housing programs and to develop additional shelter and transitional housing in areas where shelters do not exist. Funds may also be used for the modification of shelters or transitional housing facilities to make them accessible to disabled individuals.
Local units of government and private nonprofit agencies can apply for funds to provide shelter that meets the needs of families with children; persons who are frail and/or elderly; mentally ill; those who abuse alcohol and/or drugs; persons with physical disabilities or sensory impairments; and veterans.
The purpose of the Transitional Housing Program (THP) is to promote the development and/or expansion of supportive housing and appropriate supportive services to assist homeless individuals and families as they transition from homelessness and/or emergency shelter to more permanent housing. The focus of the program is to enable participants to live as independently as possible.
Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP) funds will be used to provide emergency rental assistance as well as longer term rental subsidies of up to one year for individuals and families who are homeless or who are at risk of homelessness.
All three programs are administered by the Bureau of Supportive Housing. Funds expected to be available this grant cycle are $1,900,000/ESG, $375,000/THP and $1,400,000/HPP.
