Rural Information Sessions Held

The first in a series of rural resources information events began on March 23 in Shawano. These sessions are organized and sponsored by the Department of Commerce, United States Department of Agriculture – Rural Development and Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Administration (WHEDA.) Sessions are designed to provide updated information on agency program offerings and allow participants to ask questions and raise issues.

A focus of the meetings is on how well resources from the three agencies can be layered to achieve successful local community development projects. The Shawano meetings represented a good cross section of housing, community and business interest representatives. There were a combined 37 attendees at the afternoon and evening sessions.

Session locations are based on selected target area counties. Upcoming sessions will be held in Richland Center on April 5 and Cable on April 6th and 7th. After the sessions are completed, the sponsoring agencies will evaluate how well things went by reviewing participant evaluation forms and will determine if this initiative should continue in future years.
