Division of Safety & Buildings Welcomes New Administrator
Greg Jones is the new administrator of the Safety and Buildings Division. Appointed by Commerce Secretary Mary Burke on September 12, Jones is charged with leading over 160 division employees statewide.
Programs represented by the division's regulatory and support staff are commercial buildings, one and two-family residential dwellings, fire prevention, plumbing, electrical, occupational safety and amusement rides. Coupled with his administrative role, Jones will oversee managing a current operating budget of $18 million. An additional $16.7 million is distributed in aid funding through various programs which include the annual fire dues paid to municipalities and the privately-owned wastewater treatment system program.
Jones brings a wealth of experience to Commerce, having held positions as section chief of Wisconsin's Uninsured Employers Fund, affirmative action administrator, training officer, program and planning analyst, budget analyst, recruiter and financial aids counselor.
Most recently working in the Department of Workforce Development, Jones also worked in the Departments of Employment Relations, Health and Family Services, Corrections, and Public Instruction, and at UW- Madison and UW- Eau Claire.
Jones received his bachelor's degree in Political Science and Masters Degree in Secondary Education from UW-Eau Claire, where he served as president of the school's Alumni Association. He is active with several community boards in the Madison area and has served on the Wisconsin Steering Committee for the Americans with Disabilities Act Partnership.
The division is looking forward to continuing its role in promoting health, safety and welfare to Wisconsin's citizens, businesses and visitors under the leadership of Jones.
