Chinese Boat Buyers to Visit Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Department of Commerce will be welcoming a delegation of Chinese buyers interested in pleasure boats and accessories to the state November 3-5. The delegation is composed of marina developers, boat/yacht manufacturers, potential agents and China Boat Association representatives. It will include about 15 people from Shanghai and 15 people from other parts of China, including Wuhan, Dalian, Qingdao and Yantai.

Staff of the US Foreign and Commercial Service in Shanghai recruited the delegation to attend the Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show October 27-31, 2005. After the show, the delegation will make stops in Wisconsin, the Seattle, WA area, and San Diego. The group will hold a reception in Milwaukee and work their way up the Lake Michigan Shore to Sturgeon Bay. The Department of Commerce is organizing business appointments and site visits along the way. Companies interested in meeting with members of the delegation should contact the Department of Commerce's Asia Specialist, Ms. Beng Yeap, e-mail byeap@commerce.state.wi.us, ph: (608) 266-1480.

The recent rapid economic growth in China has created a new market for recreational products. With 90,000 lakes and over 11,000 miles of coastline, boating is becoming a popular leisure activity in China. In September 2005 the US Foreign Commercial Service issued a report on recreational boating market opportunities for U.S. business. The report is available on-line at www.buyusainfo.net/docs/x_5688706.pdf.
