World Trade Day in Wisconsin - May 17, 2005
Tuesday, May 17 will be an important day for any Wisconsin firm interested in expanding or initiating international sales efforts. Several different groups will be coordinating educational programs at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee, and Governor Jim Doyle will be presenting his Export Awards.
CEOs and senior management of beginning exporters or firms exploring whether exporting is for them should consider attending 2005 Export Wisconsin. Faculty drawn from the Governor's international trade advisory council (WITCO) will discuss "Building a Successful Exporting Operation," "Do's and Taboos of International Trade," "International Law/Payments/Logistics," and other topics. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from the experiences (both successes and mistakes) of the successful exporters and export service providers who have grown Wisconsin exports to $12.7 billion in 2004. Follow the link for more information on 2005 Export Wisconsin. You can also register on-line.
While beginning exporters will be learning from the experts, major exporters will be discussing credit and payment information. The International Credit Executives (ICE) Group, which is sponsored by the Wisconsin Credit Association Inc., holds bi-monthly meetings to discuss topics related to getting paid for international transactions. Attendees monitor changing global conditions and update each other on how they vary from country to country and industry to industry. The ICE website has more information about the organization.
The 41st annual Wisconsin International Trade Conference will also be held at the Italian Community Center on May 17. The conference is the largest gathering of international trade practitioners in the state. This year the morning session will focus on "Doing Business in China." During the afternoon sessions participants can choose continued discussions and networking opportunities regarding China, "EU Enlargement: New Opportunities, New Challenges," or "CSI Milwaukee - Container Shipping Imports/Exports: Investigating the Hold Up." Click here for information on speakers and registration information.
The Governor's Export Awards will be presented during the Wisconsin International Trade Conference luncheon. The awards are presented annually to firms and organizations that have achieved extraordinary results in international sales or have contributed to Wisconsin's increased ability to compete in a global market. Any agricultural, forestry, industrial, high technology or service enterprise successfully engaging in or assisting in the export of Wisconsin-origin products or services can be nominated. The awards are presented in categories based upon size and industry. Applications can be obtained at commerce.wi.gov/ie/IE-ExportAwards.html or by calling (608) 267-9227. The deadline for submitting nominations to the Wisconsin Department of Commerce is Monday, April 18, 2005.
The directors of Wisconsin's Overseas Offices will be participating in each of the different programs on May 17 and will also be available for one-on-one appointments during various points in the day. Wisconsin currently has offices in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Europe, and China. To request an appointment with any of our directors, please send an e-mail to either email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
While these events are all being held at the Italian Community Center on May 17, each event requires separate registration through the individual event organizers.
