Canadian American Business Achievement Award Nominations Sought
The Canadian American Business Council seeks information about innovative and successful alliances between Canadian and American firms in order to recognize the benefits that these partnerships bring to both countries - in jobs, innovation, and revenue creation. Each year, two companies are recognized, one Canadian and one American, whose joint enterprise has demonstrated strong business growth, remarkable innovation, and the capacity to provide the partners with a global advantage.
Follow the links for more information on the Canadian American Business Council or to obtain a nomination form. The deadline for nominations to be received is May 15, 2005.
Canada is Wisconsin's nearest and largest export market. Over 38% of all of Wisconsin's exports, amounting to $4.857 billion in 2004, were shipped to Canada. Shipments to Canada grew by 11.7% in 2004 compared to 10.9% in 2003. Canada's strong domestic market and the approximate 10% appreciation of the Canadian dollar certainly helped that growth.
The Canadian government reports that 76% of Wisconsin exports to Canada go to Ontario. Some of these goods are in turn sold to consumers in other provinces, but because of the highly integrated manufacturing economy of the Great Lakes region (particularly in the automotive sector), many Wisconsin-made components return to the United States as part of finished goods assembled in Canada's industrial heartland.
The Wisconsin Department of Commerce maintains a trade promotion office in Toronto in cooperation with the Council of Great Lakes Governors. The office can help a Wisconsin firm assess market potential in Canada, understand Canadian government regulations, and identify potential customer/agents/distributors. Nancy Ward, director of the office, will be in Wisconsin in May along with the directors of all of our overseas offices and will be available for one-on-one consultations. If you would like more information about Canadian opportunities, contact Stanley Pfrang by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at (608) 267-0639.
