Ongoing Training Available on Suite of International Building Codes
The Department of Commerce has re-established a 15-day training session designed to prepare potential commercial-building inspector candidates to take the certification exam as well as serve as a concentrated introductory course to the Wisconsin Commercial Building Code. What previously had been an established venue in Madison has now been introduced throughout the state. Following the July 2002 adoption of the International Building Code (IBC), energy code (IECC), mechanical code (IMC) and fuel gas code (IFGC), the Department of Commerce has focused on a number of training initiatives targeted to meet the needs of all individuals affected by the change. Designers, building owners, facility managers, and fire and building officials were the focus of those sessions.

Currently, the course is structured to meet one day a week for a full day and run 15 consecutive weeks. The location of the course is based on regional need. The fall session is scheduled to begin in September and will be held at the Fitchburg city hall building. Commerce will also offer a winter session in Milwaukee. To schedule these classes in your area please contact Henry Kosarzycki at 262/548-8615 or by email at hkosarzycki@commerce.state.wi.us. Additional classes can be added to the current schedule as well as future training sessions in 2004.
