WBSN meeting promotes state - local regulatory partnerships

Public officials in Wisconsin looking to better coordinate delivery of regulatory services will want to attend the second annual meeting of the Wisconsin Building Safety Network (WBSN) Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at the Country Springs Hotel in Pewaukee.

“The WBSN meeting will give community officials an opportunity to connect with counterparts and share their knowledge and expertise,” said Department of Commerce Secretary Jack Fischer, AIA.  “Our staff can help communities develop a streamlined approach that furthers economic development while ensuring public safety.”

The all-day program includes presentations by several Wisconsin municipalities on building projects they have successfully implemented. Local government officials, municipal managers, building regulation supervisors, and fire department officials may take home practical information about:

- Effective regulatory management strategies
- Effective coordination of building code programs and local economic development
- Managing storm water runoff
- Innovative and successful building safety programs

In addition, attendees can interact with representatives of the Safety and Buildings Division and the Department of Natural Resources.

The event is co-sponsored by S&B and University of Wisconsin - Madison.

For program, registration, and lodging information, visit http://epd.engr.wisc.edu/webK241.  Registrations are limited.

Other questions can be directed to Henry Kosarzycki, S&B's Municipal Liaison, 608-212-0138, henry.kosarzycki@wisconsin.gov.

Commerce formed the WBSN to help communities coordinate their community development, economic development, building regulation and fire department efforts.  The hope is for cooperative and streamlined processes resulting in building projects completed faster, safer and at less cost.  S&B and UW - Madison staff planned the fall meting with an advisory group of representatives from the League of Wisconsin Municipalities, Wisconsin Towns Association, Wisconsin Fire Inspectors Association, and the Wisconsin Counties Association.
