associated with a tank search is refreshed every weekend. The date

Storage Tanks General Information (608) 266-7874
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Effective 10/01/97 Wang ID Numbers are not
assigned to tank registrations. The Wang ID number is obsolete and has
been replaced by the Regulated Object ID Number. The Department of
Commerce is not responsible for maintaining the Wang Number as a
primary identifier.

SEARCH TIPS & INSTRUCTIONS
- Searching by different criteria may produce
different results because of missing or partially matched information.
Example 1: A search by fire department ID or site
information may not show all tanks within that area because a number of
tanks are missing general site information.
Example 2: A search by street name, such as First Street,
will not show tanks with a street address of First St., 1st
Street, or 1st St. It will show tanks on First
Street in Madison, Eau Claire, LaCrosse, and any other city that has a
tank site address of First Street, unless you limit the results by
entering a municipality or county.
Search Instructions
- There are 2 screens from which to start a search. If
you know the tank number, either the regulated object number or the
Wang ID number, use the Search by Tank ID screen. It will provide the
fastest result. If you are searching by another attribute or
combination of attributes, the Search by Site, Owner, or Tank
Characteristics screen is the one to use.
- Enter as many identifying fields on the search criteria
screen as possible to limit your search results. Avoid entering a
street address without also entering a municipality or county.
- Search fields are not case sensitive, that is, it is
not necessary to capitalize any letters.
- Make use of the percent sign (%) as a wildcard
indicators in the street address. The % stands for zero or more
characters within the address. The search examines where the criteria
exists within the data. Some examples:
"102 main" will find all addresses with "102 Main" in
the address; examples: 102 Main St, 2102 Main Avenue.
"2%lake" will find any address in the 200, 2000, 20000,
etc. block of any street with "lake" in it, for example, "2206 Lake
Edge", "20544 Mirror Lake Rd", or "202 E. Lake St".
- The owner name is to be entered as last
name, first name for an individual, or business
name for a business. The search returns records matching on
words entered, or sounds like on the last name. If unable to locate,
you can enter a portion of the name which includes last name or first
word of the business name (excluding common prepositions like the).
The database name field is not consistently
formatted. In some records the last name appears first, and in other
records first name is before last name. Therefore, if it is necessary
to search reversing using the name field.
If you enter "meyer", any records which have an owner name sounding
like Meyer, as example "Maier", "Major", or "Mayers" will appear on the
list.
Deleted - See Comments
This is a notation from the Department's database
reflecting the tank has been deleted from the database. The comment
information is not accessible via the Internet search site. A tank is
deleted if the Department has determined that the respective tank data
is a duplicate or false entry. It is not
a tank that has been closed by removal.
Tank Detail Inspection Status
Many
tanks require periodic inspections by Certified Tank Inspectors that
are either employed by Commerce or employed by companies under contract
with the department. Tanks under the designated inspection
program have an inspection status listed at the bottom of the
respective web page. The status codes are as follows:
CLOS - Inspection closed due to no
noncompliance issues or compliance issues have been corrected and violations no
longer exist. CLNI - Tank was not inspected
the respective fiscal year. INVS - Inspection has resulted
in the need for further investigation or assessment or additional records to
determine compliance. Order - Noncompliance order has
not yet been satisfied and inspection is still open. 2NOT - Second notice with compliance
date. EXTN - Extension of compliance date. RLEG - Refer to Legal by
supervisor or management. RMAN - Refer to management by inspector
as a result of not gaining compliance. RSUP - Refer to supervisor by
Commerce inspector.

Download Information:
The download information will appear in format compatible
with Microsoft Excel. The download gives the document the file name
"TankList." You must add the file type suffix ".csv"
to the end of the name that you are placing in the File Name box. You
probably want to give the document a name specific to the search
information, rather than continuing to use TankList. Example:
MadisonInUseUst.csv. Once the information
is saved on your PC you can format the columns and rows to your
satisfaction.
The information that is being downloaded includes the site
address, but, does not include the owners address which may be
different than the site address. Link to codes used on the download spreadsheet.
